About the Program    

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is fully accredited and will provide excellent opportunities,
resources, and state of the art facilities to excel your academic and clinical experience. In addition,
our unique program will offer you:
  • The three-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • The full-time, three-semester academic year.
  • Small student to faculty ratio for individual learning; 6:1
  • Direct entry into diagnostic medical sonography program; once you are accepted into Bellin College you are also accepted into your program. We do not maintain a wait list.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) board eligible in:
    • Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn)
    • Abdomen
    • Vascular
    • Sonography Principles and Instrumentation
  • Leadership courses prepare students to succeed in their career

Program Philosophy

In association with the mission of Bellin College, it is the intention of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography  to educate medical imaging students who will function as proficient health care professionals and team members possessing a constant concern for quality patient care and technical competency. It is the School’s intention to maintain the highest program standards, thus insuring accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission guaranteeing graduates their eligibility for examination by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).


Our program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).  Graduates of the program are eligible for certification through the American Registry of Diangsotic Medical Sonography

Program Goals & Student Learning Outcomes

1. Graduates will be competent to demonstrate entry-level general and vascular sonography in the cognitive (knowledge) learning domain.
a. Obtain, review and integrate pertinent patient data and history to facilitate optimum diagnostic results
b. Demonstrate critical thinking skills during the performance of sonographic procedures to provide optimum diagnostic services and results.
c. Identify, describe, and predict diseases using ultrasound cases and correlation of other imaging modalities.

2. Graduates will be competent to demonstrate entry-level general and vascular sonography in the psychomotor (skills) learning domain.
a. Perform sonographic procedures appropriately, timely, and accurately recording all anatomic and physiologic information for interpretation by a physician.
b. Document and present complete and accurate sonographic findings to the interpreting physician in order to facilitate patient diagnosis.
c. Maintain optimal function of the sonographic equipment.
d. Maintain safety of patients utilizing ALARA principles.
e. Assist physician during invasive ultrasound guided procedures using sterile technique.

3. Graduates will be competent to demonstrate entry-level general and vascular sonography in the affective (behavior) learning domain.
a. Provide compassionate patient care and education to promote overall well-being.
b. Act in a professional manner within recognized ethical and legal standards.
c. Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning in the ultrasound profession.

4. Students will demonstrate entry-level competency in general and vascular sonography procedures.
a. Consistently perform routine sonography requirements for ordered exam
b. Prepared to enter the profession as a registered sonographer in vascular, abdomen/small parts, and gyn/ob.

5. Students will portray leadership skills.
a. Successfully completed leadership course
b. Served as a volunteer for a college/community event
